Definition of Bagua: What is ba-gua?
The Ba gua are eight diagrams used in Taoist cosmology to represent a range of interrelated concepts. "Ba" means eight (8). "Gua" means trigram. Bagua helps form the feng shui road map, infact boxes are the basic building blocks of feng shui.

The ba gua divides any space into these nine areas. Each area corresponds to a different aspect of your life (see diagram). Whatever is going on energetically-good or bad-in that part of your space will affect the related aspect of your life.

Every space has a ba gua. There is a ba gua for your plot of land, a ba gua for your house or apartment, and a ba gua for each room within your home. You can even apply the ba gua to your desk, bed, or stove.

With the help of the Bagua map one can find out where an area responsible for a certain life aspect is located within a house or a room. However, different Feng Shui schools have different approaches towards using it on practice.

The Bagua map divides a premise into 9 areas. Each of the 8 zones is responsible for a separate aspect of life and the area at the center represents the person/home/office. Here is how Bagua map areas are located according to the New Age Compass school of Feng Shui:

1. North – Feng Shui career area.
2. South-West – Feng Shui love, romance and marriage area.
3. East – Feng Shui family and health area.
4. South-East – wealth and prosperity area.
5. The center – Feng Shui health area. This area is at the center of the map; it represents the person and Earth. Usually a Feng Shui master is most concerned about 8 guas.
6. North-West – Feng Shui area of mentors and helpful people.
7. West – Feng Shui zone of children and creativity.
8. North-East – knowledge and self-cultivation area.
9. South – Feng Shui fame and reputation area.
